PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS (PCB)

New trends in printed circuit board manufacturing are increasingly calling for progressive board designs, thickness and materials. Much of the industry is also moving to Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) compliance in their processes. With these advances, however, comes a higher failure risk. In response, manufacturers have begun to require more rigorous printed circuit board stability testing, and Micro-Measurements has developed strain gage (gauge) patterns to address this need.

Printed Circuit Board Test Standards

Because consumer products endure much abuse, it’s necessary to perform load and thermal testing to ensure printed circuit boards survive. Several test standards are available, but those offered by the Joint Electron Device Council (JEDEC) are highly regarded and frequently used. IPC/JEDEC-9704A (Printed Circuit Assembly Strain Gage Test Guideline) describes reliability testing using strain gage sensors. Micro-Measurements has strain gage sensor patterns specifically designed to meet the standard requirements.
